About TRANSFORMATIONS: A Fashion Showcase
This Earth Day inspired showcase will celebrate the creativity and strides of Turning Heads’ at-risk San Francisco youth with a love for sewing and fashion as they set new sights for themselves through the mentorship of aspiring CCSF fashion designers, transforming recycled clothing from Goodwill Industries into exquisite evening wear.

Sparks Community Engagement Announcement

Spark, an organization whose mission is to build a community of young, global citizens who are invested in changing patterns of inequality that impact women throughout the world is working with turning heads to provide workshops surrounding community engagement. Topics to be covered include:

- Personal Finance: saving, budgeting, access to credit

- Building Customer & Fan Base through Social Media

- Intro to Excel for Personal and Business Budgeting

- Solidifying the Sweet Dreams Value Proposition

- Career Night

- Leadership / Self-Awareness / Confidence Building

CCA Fashion Sustainability Students and Turning Heads Team Up

California College of the Arts Fashion Sustainability Students, Sandra and Ann, in collaboration with Turning Heads Sewing & Fashion Design are creating a Community Repair Project. Turning Heads, a San Francisco based non-profit, provides vocational arts education, entrepreneurship training, and develops young women leaders in San Francisco. Turning Heads youth will create one jacket, pattern piece by pattern piece. Each young woman will design and handcraft two pieces answering the question: “What does sewing mean to me?” Their love of sewing and the act of making the jacket as a team will bind them together as a community of young women. “Repair” is a community art project that will be showcased for a week at the CCA gallery at the San Francisco campus. The overarching goal is to give these young women the opportunity to express their creativity, and work together to bring this project to fruition, thus empowering these young women through the exhibition of their work.
